How to Change the Language on Instagram

Instagram is easier to use when the menus, privacy controls and notifications appear in a language you are comfortable reading. Whether you changed a setting by accident, bought a phone configured in another language, or simply prefer using Instagram in your native language, the switch usually takes less than a minute.

Change the language in the Instagram app

Open Instagram and go to your profile. Tap the menu in the top-right corner, then open Settings and activity. Look for Language in the “Your app and media” area and choose the language you want. Instagram should refresh the interface straight away; on some phones it may ask you to confirm the change in your device settings.

The wording of menu labels can vary a little between app versions and operating systems, so do not worry if you see “Settings,” “Settings and privacy,” or “Settings and activity.” The important part is finding the Language option from your profile menu.

What if the Language option is missing?

First, update Instagram from the App Store or Google Play and reopen the app. Older app versions can place settings in different locations. If you use an iPhone, Instagram may follow the language selected for the app in iOS Settings. On Android, the app can also inherit the phone’s language preference when an app-specific setting is unavailable.

After changing the setting, close Instagram completely and open it again if only part of the interface has updated. Posts, usernames, captions and comments will not be translated automatically just because the app language changes; this setting controls the menus and system text you see.

Changing language is not the same as translating a post

If a caption or comment is written in another language, use Instagram’s “See translation” option when it appears below the text. That is separate from the app-language setting. It is useful to keep this distinction in mind: one controls the interface, while the other helps you read individual pieces of content.

A small tip for creators and businesses

If you manage an account with people in more than one country, set your own app language to the one you work in most comfortably, then check important profile details from a visitor’s point of view. Clear bios, captions and call-to-actions matter more than the language of your own menu. For practical tools and services built around the platform, explore our Instagram SMM panel.

Final check

Once the change is complete, open your profile, messages and settings screens to confirm the new language is showing consistently. If it is not, update the app, restart it, and review your phone’s app-language settings. That usually resolves the issue without needing to log out or reinstall Instagram.
